Dear Reader,
The theme that is represented throughout this multi-genre collection is that many modern medical procedures create ethical controversy, but those differences should be overlooked as human lives must be the primary focus. Due to the technological advancements that are available today, there are many medical procedures involving this technology that create controversy. I chose to address this theme throughout my collection because I have a strong interest in medicine, and the effects it can have on the patient themselves, and their family, both mentally and physically. There have been four pieces created for this collection: a fictional piece, a non-fictional piece, an informational piece, and a visual piece. The fictional piece is a free form poem, that addresses the morals of the Jehovah's Witness religion in that they are not permitted to receive blood transfusions, and the young boy in the poem dies as a result of these beliefs. The informational piece is a top ten list that address the top five pros and cons of physician assisted suicide, placed in order based on my personal opinion. As a non-fiction text focusing on organ transplants, I chose to interview one of my close friends about her experience as an organ transplant recipient, and how it has impacted the lives of herself and her family. The last piece found in this collection is a drawing that shows both of the options that parents have towards vaccinating their children, along with a more detailed explanation of the meaning of each element found in the drawing. The theme statement that this whole collection is based on is found at the bottom of each page in blue font, it stands out from all of the other writing on the page because it is used as the repetend.
