Fictional Piece
Poem: Thanks to my God
Dark sky illuminated by flashes of red, white, and blue.
Weeeoooo-Weeeoooo-Weeeoooo
My ears see the screams of onlookers.
Brother and sister, forever asleep in the seats behind me.
Gentle hands cut me free.
The crisp night air makes my skin quiver as it caresses
my vulnerable body.
The sound of a million footsteps surround me.
Whispers of “He needs blood immediately”,
“I’ve never seen someone survive an accident like that”
Echo in my ears.
Poking, prodding, penetrating my damaged body with their instruments.
“STOP”
A familiar voice demanded.
Jehovah god does not approve of this.
He will die without it,
He must die without betraying our god.
Our god prohibits contaminating our bodies
With the blood of others.
His children must return to him
Pure.
Mother please, don’t let me die.
It is not my choice, son.
If you must go to the Kingdom of God,
Be sure to care for your siblings.
I reflected on mother’s words,
Decided that I must go.
Lungs contract for the last time,
Heart, the last “lub-dub”
Eyelashes flutter for the last time before
Entering eternal slumber.

Many medical procedures create ethical controversy, but those differences should be overlooked as human lives must be the primary focus.
