Drawing: To Vaccinate or not to Vaccinate?
This drawing was created to show the two most disputed opinions that parents have concerning the vaccinations of their children. Vaccinations are a remarkably controversial subject when it comes to new parents in the twenty-first century. the majority of parents vaccinate their children, because there is plenty of research proving it protects children from various diseases, which possibly leads to saving their lives. A popular reason parents give when deciding to not vaccinate their children, is that vaccines cause worse side effects than the disease itself, even though side effects are extremely rare today. This image represents both of these opinions. The woman in the foreground who is staring over a grave of a deceased child represents the parents that are against vaccinations, as stated clearly on her shirt. The silhouettes in the background are voicing their opinion, which represent the parents that support vaccines. This image was created to be interpreted in two different ways. The most obvious story that this image tells is that the deceased child belongs to the woman, has died as a result of not receiving his vaccinations, and the mother is grieving over her infant son’s grave. The viewer could also read this image as a child that had passed due to side effects of his vaccinations, and a woman that is against vaccinations is visiting his grave, and wishing that the boy didn’t get vaccinated so he would still be alive. Vaccinations are one of the most common disputes between new parents in this millennium, and even though every parent can choose how to raise their children, they should make those decisions with the assistance of a medical professional, all while keeping the health of their child in mind.
Many medical procedures create ethical controversy, but those differences should be overlooked as human lives must be the primary focus.
